Course Prerequisite
CHEM 122 or 132 with a grade of C or better.
Course Description
This is the first semester of a two-semester sequence. It includes a study of the structure, nomenclature, reactivity, and synthesis of organic compounds. Reaction mechanisms and stereochemistry are emphasized. The laboratory includes macro and micro scale techniques and synthesis. Gas and liquid chromatography as well as infrared instrumentation are used to identify synthesized compounds.
