Natural Hazards and Disasters

Course Description

This course applies the basic principles of earth science to the understanding of natural hazards and the mitigation of related disasters. Students learn about the scientific causes and societal effects of wildfires, floods, severe storms, hurricanes, landslides, droughts, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, impact events and mass extinctions. A special emphasis will be placed on the natural hazards that effect Central Illinois.
