American Literature 1865 to Present

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to

recognize representative aesthetic and thematic archetypes, conventions, and innovations as well as their evolution in American literature.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to

examine a variety of social issues (such as race, gender, religion, politics, and economics) in primary texts as a means of re-constructing the ideology of their authorial and rhetorical voices and as a way of reflecting on contemporary equivalents.
