Emergency Notifications and Closures
ICC's MyAlert system provides emergency notifications through text message, voice call, and email. Active students are automatically opted in to receive alerts to the email addresses and phone numbers in their MyICC account - these should always be kept up to date. Individuals who wish to opt out of receiving text or voice calls can do so by replying to messages to unsubscribe. Parents or others who also want to opt in to receive notifications can do so at www.icc.edu/myalert.
Campus closures or delayed openings will be communicated through the MyAlert system, on ICC's website and social media pages, and through the following media outlets: WMBD-TV Channel 31, WHOI- TV Channel 19, WEEK-TV Channel 25, WCBU radio 89.9 FM, WMBD radio 1470AM and 100.3FM, and the Peoria Journal Star online. Wait for an announcement to be made and do not call Campus Police, the Information Desk, or radio/television stations.
In Case of Emergency
Get to a safe place, then notify Campus Police by calling (309) 694-5111 or by using your LiveSafe app. Campus Police will coordinate with local response agencies.
Identify yourself and provide as much information as you can including location and descriptions of any suspects, weapons, and vehicles as applicable.
Fire or Evacuation
An alert tone followed by verbal instruction and/or flashing strobe lights indicates a fire or evacuation emergency.
Everyone must quickly evacuate the building in an orderly manner using the nearest safe exit. Do not use elevators unless directed to by emergency personnel.
If safe to do so, notify others inside who might not have heard the alert.
Immediately move to an area away from the affected buildings. Do not remain in courtyards. Keep doorways, walkways, and roads clear.
Help others to exit the building if you can. Report any injured, missing, or trapped persons to emergency personnel.
If you are unable to exit, go to the nearest area without hazards and call Campus Police with your exact location, or signal emergency responders if possible.
Do not reenter the building until someone in authority gives an "all clear."
Tornado
An alert tone followed by verbal instructions or activation of a local Tornado Siren indicates a Tornado Warning and seek shelter announcement.
Immediately seek shelter inside a substantial building. Do not stay in a vehicle. Campus Housing occupants should move to the Academic Building.
Move to an interior room or hallway on the lowest level of the building. Stay away from windows. (View the ICC Emergency Response Guide online to see a list of designated areas to seek shelter.)
Remain sheltered until someone in authority gives an "all clear."
Secure and Lockdown
Certain situations on campus may trigger a warning to Secure or Lockdown certain areas, buildings, or an entire campus.
Secure
Get inside a building.
Lock any exterior doors if you can. Campus Police will also lock down doors.
Listen for further instructions. Business may continue as usual inside while the situation is being investigated.
Lockdown
Get inside a building and moved to a locked room. Barricade entry if possible.
Close blinds and turn off lights if practicable. Hide out of sight.
Silence cell phones and other sources of noise.
Listen for further instructions.
If You Are Attacked
Go with your instincts but be realistic about your ability to fight off someone. Your goal should be to escape safely and survive; cooperate if you think that resisting may lead to further harm. If a person with a weapon confronts you and wants your vehicle or property, don't resist. Your life and safety are more important than property.
