Registered Nurse

Admission requirement: 

• Current high school senior or high school graduate with minimum high school GPA 2.7, or 9 credit hours of college-level courses with minimum GPA 2.5 or higher 

• College/ICC student with minimum overall college GPA 2.5 or higher

• Verify Illinois Department of Public Health Registry as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) prior to starting nursing program courses 

• Complete ICC Biology Placement Test with minimum score to place into BIOL 205 or completion of BIOL 205 with grade C or higher

• Requires the Health Science Application

  
  Additional requirements after program acceptance:

• Complete drug screen, criminal background check, physical examination and immunizations

• Complete Healthcare Provider CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross (ARC) BLS attained and keep it current throughout program

• Complete HESI A2 RN Admission Assessment

• Participate in scheduled program registration and orientation sessions

• Maintain minimum GPA 2.0 and earn GPA 2.0 or higher in all courses required within program

Recommendations;

• High school courses: anatomy and physiology, biology lab, chemistry

• Encouraged to complete BIOL 205 Anatomy & Physiology I and BIOL 206 Anatomy & Physiology II prior to admission to the program

• Before application, schedule an appointment with college health careers student success advisor for help enrolling in required courses

• Required general education courses from program sequence may be completed with grade C or higher, prior to acceptance/admission into program
  the program

Graduates are eligible to take the National Council State Board of Nursing (NCSBN) Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and may apply for licensure to practice nursing as a professional Registered Nurse (RN).

Transfer of comparable credit from other institutions may be evaluated and accepted toward meeting requirements of ICC Nursing Program's general education courses. Transfer credit is not automatically accepted for occupational or vocational "program courses"; demonstration of proficiency or competency is required. Credit is not given for work experience. 

To progress in the program and graduate, a student must earn a grade of C or better in all required general education courses and nursing program courses.

A student who has (a) received a grade lower than C in the first semester nursing course RNRS 110, or (b) received an unsatisfactory grade in the RNRS 110 clinical and or lab component, or who has (c) withdrawn, will need to reapply for admission to the program. 

A student who has successfully completed RNRS 110 and who has (a) received a grade lower than C in RNRS 118, RNRS 216, or RNRS 217, or (b) received an unsatisfactory grade in the RNRS 118, RNRS 216, or RNRS 217 clinical and or lab component, or who has (c) withdrawn, will need to meet readmission eligibility requirements of the nursing program and will be required to take the re-entry nursing course HLTH 255 or RNRS 098.  

A student may be readmitted to the program only once and may repeat a nursing course only one time.
